As a team, we have been flying and teaching on Twitch, YouTube and
Discord events including Microsoft Official Twitch streams and as part of
the FlightSimExpo 2021 opening presentation in San Diego.
About Us
Most of us have been formation flying together in small groups since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 [MSFS] came out in August 2020. In March 2021 the FlyingIron Spitfire was released in MSFS and vast numbers of Spitfires were flying around virtual Southern England together. It was this event that our small informal formation groups found each other.
By the end of March 2021 we had joined forces into a single display team which has largely remained unchanged since then.
In the Summer of 2021, MSFS started to suffer multiplayer technical issues which improved slightly in November 2021. These issues prompted the team to move onto Digital Combat Simulator [DCS] and now we fly on both simulators.

Formerly known as the ThunderFlys
When our small formation groups joined to make a single team, we took on the name of the largest cohort, The Thunderflys Display Team.
As the Thunderflys we flew displays for charity events, anniversaries, marketing media and streamers on Twitch, YouTube and Discord.
In December 2021, we became the Shadow Display Team.
The Move to DCS
Saddened by ongoing multiplayer issues on MSFS that were making formation flying more difficult, the team reluctantly moved to DCS in September 2021.
We have found DCS to be a thrilling place to fly and is the very best environment for formation training. It is noticeable how trainee pilots improve so much faster on DCS than on MSFS.
The MSFS Return
Recent improvements in MSFS have seen us return to our roots and
it’s a joy to be back.
There’s something special about flying in a completely open world
that covers the whole planet with great looking landscapes and clouds.
It is the most wonderful thing to be flying again amongst the many
friends and followers we made before our reluctant move to DCS.
